Is it legal for someone to take pictures of my kids without my consent?
Some residents in my apartment community are continuously taking pictures and video of the kids while they are playing outside, without the permission of the parents. Is this legal?
they are taking pictures of teenagers and all kids outside because they say they are making too much noise..the kids are not doing anything besides playing and doing things kids do, running around and playing football, man hunt, riding skateboards…and just hanging out with thier friends..
some people like to make accusations about the parents when their children play unsupervised…I would watch myself around such neighbors…they report you — you are in a world of sh*t…..
stay close to your kids at all times when they are outside…..unless they are teenagers of course…….peace.
id be a bit concerned…don’t know if its legal…it could be..since you all live on the same property….id defiantly get that checked out tho…they could just be doing it for if there is some property damage to see who it could have been…but make sure the person is not a weirdo child molester…

I think you should confront them about it, telling them that as a parent, you feel uncomfortable that they are being recorded on video without your permission. Don’t mention this to the police until you know what they’ll use it for.

if they are planning to make a profit from that then it is illegal

If someone is on public or private property then they can legally aim their camera at whatever they want. I would call the police. If that doesn’t work, I would literally put up fliers everywhere with their exact address, saying that they are continually taking pictures of children and hinting that they could be some type of predator.

Yes it is legal if your children are out in public view. Get your Camera out and film them and let them know your filming them.

It depends what they are doing with it. If it is not for sale or use in a public medium, then no, it is not illegal. It would be like if you took a picture someplace while on vacation and other people were in the picture on accident or with purpose you would not need their permission.
On the other hand, I would be a little creeped out by what you are describing and I guess I would confront them and ask them directly why they are doing it and what their intentions are.
In addition, I would document the times you see them taking pictures and who all is involved. If things turn legal (eg. Police get involved) that type of documentation will be a good support to the case.

It depends on why their taking them. If there going their kids photo album I’d say no. Because parents take pictures of their kid friends all the time. So unless your witness protection I would worry not much.

There are some cities that have local ordinances about recording things. In general, in the absence of a city ordinance, if one can lawfully see something one can lawfully record what one is seeing. Hence, a TV company can film 100,000 people in a football stadium without getting the consent of every one of those people. What one does with the recording is another question.
